Super Foods for a Healthy and Glowing Skin!

By God's grace, I have always been complimented for my skin.

I won't deny that I am lucky to have good skin but then I don't really take my luck for granted and make efforts too to maintain this luck.
So my lovelies I thought of sharing my secrets with you via this post and trust me its not just about good skin but being healthy too!
We all love to eat out, which we should, I don't like depriving myself of anything but you have to eat sensibly by maintaining the right balance of treating your taste buds and taking care of your health too at the same time.
Too much of either is not good.
So enjoy life holistically by creating the right balance by maintaining the right diet!

It all begins with eating right!

So below are the Super Foods that I intake on a daily basis for good skin!

First and foremost I start my day with this Elixir -

Warm Water with Lemon, Honey and a pinch of Cinnamon

Warm Water with Lemon, Honey and Cinnamon

I'l tell you why. It's because it has plenty of benefits for skin.
Lemon helps to clean your system and helps in purifying blood. The Vitamin C component rejuvenates your skin from within. When you mix in honey, it boosts the antibacterial and collagen of your skin.

Now I add a pinch of cinnamon too to this because its helps boost metabolism and has many more benefits which you can read here  - Health Benefits Of Cinnamon and you can also read about Health Benefits Of Honey.

Power Packed Seeds -

Pumpkin Seeds, Sunflower Seeds and Flax Seeds
Strawberry Chia Pudding

Currently these three are a part of my diet which I occasionally substitute with Nuts depending on my mood. These are power packed threesome which have so many health benefits.

For example - Pumpkin Seeds contain Vitamin E which acts as a strong antioxidant and improves the skin tone. They contain Vitamin A which aids the production of new skin cells and also helps to repair the existing skin problems.
With the existence of zinc and selenium, pumpkin seeds upgrade the collagen levels and give your skin extra protection against environmental pollution and harsh UV rays.

Pumpkin Seeds maintain Sebum Production. Essential fatty acids present in pumpkin seeds play a significant role in maintaining the oil production and moisture levels of your skin.

Sunflower Seeds are a rich source of  Vitamin E and Vitamin B. They contain a good amount of protein and vital minerals like zinc, magnesium etc. Sunflower seeds are full of fiber and are a perfect snack for those people who are in a strict diet. As they contain so many essential nutrients, they are excellent for your hair and skin!

Flaxseeds and its oil contain several skin-friendly nutrients that can help to improve the health of the skin. The essential fatty acids in flaxseed keep the skin hydrated and moisturised. Regular intake of flaxseeds increases the body’s natural oil production, keeping the skin baby soft. Flaxseeds control the production of sebum, an oily substance produced by the skin glands, preventing the onset of acne. Eat 1 to 2 tablespoons of milled flaxseed daily to achieve healthy and younger-looking skin.

Occasionally I consume Chia Seeds too by adding them in my smoothies or just make a Chia pudding.
Chia Seeds are a powerhouse of nutrients but it is always better to do research and check before consuming them as they are not suitable to all!

All these seeds are very rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and rich in fibre and contain so many essential nutrients and minerals which are excellent not just for your skin but your health overall!
Do google about these seeds when you have time, to read about the abundant health benefits of these power - packed seeds and make sure you include them in your diet!

When I get bored of them, I alternate them with Walnuts and Almonds.

Herbal Teas

Rose Tea
Herbal Teas like Green Tea, Rose Tea, Chamomile Tea, Cranberry Tea, they are all rich in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties which are wonderful for your skin!

Rose Tea - Rose petals are good for your skin as it contains antibacterial, antioxidative, and anti-inflammatory compounds. Consuming this refreshing tea can help in treating several infections such as pimples. So, have a cup of warm soothing rose tea to keep your skin healthy as the antioxidants found in rose tea keep your skin free from the harmful free radicals.

Cranberry Tea
Cranberry Tea - Cranberry is rich in vitamin C, which is needed for the formation of hydroxyproline, hydroxylisine and amino acids that are required to produce collagen in the body. This helps in keeping the skin soft, firm and healthy.

Green Tea

Green Tea contain a high amount of antioxidants as well as enzymes, amino acids, and phytochemicals like polyphenols. It also has B vitamins, folate, manganese, potassium, magnesium and caffeine.
Green tea improves your skin complexion and makes your skin healthy. It helps flush out toxins from the skin, heals blemishes and scars, and reduces inflammation. It even improves the skin’s elasticity.

Chamomile Tea works as excellent and natural bleach. Your skin complexion is lightened and it gets a healthy glow. Chamomile tea soothes all kinds of irritations on your skin and treats sunburns. It contains lots of anti-oxidants, which are great for treating acne and breakouts. They fight against acne scars and eliminate them too.

So make it a daily ritual to have any one of these daily!

Fruits

Ok I'l be honest with you guys that I am really not too fond of fruits but once in a while I love to indulge in seasonal fruits like Strawberries, Cherries and Mangoes.
It is always better to eat them only when its their season.
I have come across many articles which say that indulging in one fruit daily on an empty stomach is very beneficial.
Fruits are very rich in fibre and help cleanse your system which in turn makes your skin good.
You can always make a nice fruit salad and sprinkle seeds over them like shown in the picture below!

Dark Chocolate

My poison!
Now I am gonna make you happy when I say indulge in little Dark Chocolate daily without feeling guilty :)
You have plenty of reasons to indulge in Dark Chocolate as it is very beneficial for your brain and skin!
It helps protect your skin as the flavonoids in dark chocolate absorb UV light thus they help in preventing skin damage and they also increase blood flow to the skin and improve skin’s hydration and complexion.
Ideally you should look for dark chocolate that's at least 60 to 70 percent cocoa for those high flavonoid concentrations that actually help your health.
But I love my Cranberry Bournville or Hazelnut Bournville.
So aren't you happy reading this ;) But don't go overboard in indulging, lol !
Don't forget something very important and that is to drink lots of water!
Ok apart from a good diet, you need to exercise, do Pranayam like Nadi Shodhan and you can also do 5 - 10 Surya Namaskars as it helps in blood circulation.
And once a week apply some nice natural herbal face pack.
This is a mandatory ritual of mine to apply face pack, drink a cup of Rose Tea, then close my eyes and listen to my favourite music!
It's like having a DIY mini spa time at home, haha ;)

I hope you find this post useful :)

Would love your feedback on the same!

For now
